Eden Gardens is one of the greatest and the oldest grounds in India. Only after the Melbourne Cricket Ground was renovated, was it able to topple the status of Eden Gardens as the biggest stadium. This pride of Kolkata was built in 1864 and has a capacity of 90,000. It is commonly known as the Lordís of Asia.
It is almost a dream come true for the cricket lovers to witness a cricket match. The huge flood lights and the score board all add to the zing of the ground. The stadium is located close to the Kolkata High Court State Secretariat Building, in B.B.D. Bagh area. The first ever official Test match was held in 1934, in the grounds. Then, the first ever one day international match was held in the year 1987. It was the Hero Cup knoctout matches which were first played under the flooding lights of the ground.
It is commonly said that "a cricketer's cricketing education is not complete till he has played in front of a packed Eden Gardens." In fact, the headquarters of Cricket Association of Bengal too is situated in Eden Gardens itself. The curator of the stadium is Probir Mukherjee.
Till date 35 test matches has been played on the grounds of the stadium. The stadium has witnessed numerous memorable moments. It is on this ground that Kapil Dev took his well known hat trick against the Sri Lankans. It is on this ground that people witnessed Sachin Tendulkarís controversial run out in 1999 against Pakistan.
