Kolkata is the pride of India and Science City is the pride of Kolkata. It is the best known and the largest centre for science within the Indian subcontinent working under the Government of India, National Council of Science Museums or NCSM and the Ministry of Culture. This sprawling and lush green science centre is situated at the crossing of JBS Haldane Avenue and Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. It was first opened as the Convention Centre Complex by Paul Jozef Crutzen and the then chief minister of West Bengal, the late Jyoti Basu.
It stays open everyday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. as per the IST and stays closed only on the day of Holi. It is simply a wonderland/wanderland (wonderful things and too vast space), where you can not only have a family day out, but at the same time gain knowledge on almost everything in relation to science. You can enjoy by watching the life sized dinosaurs, the birds and the insects, all kinds of tiny creatures, swings and the jungle and so on.
Within the Science City grounds, you can have the space station tour, tour on the train, watch 3-D movies, enjoy in the Creepy crawler section, and watch the Fish eye projected I-MAX movies. There’s beautiful and lush garden for the kids, and so you can have a wonderful day ahead in Science City.
